Design Researcher on the PACKOUT and BOLT PPE teams, developing three large scale product rollouts for Milwaukee Tool.

The projects I have worked on are currently in the process of production engineering efforts. I will be able to show these products in the next few years. Below is an overview of the work I have completed on the PACKOUT and BOLT teams.

In my time with Milwaukee Tool, I have conducted research in 9 regions with over 1000 end users.

Research included discovery in the fuzzy front end as well as prototype validation. Research was done on commercial construction sites, civil sites, and in-house.

ETHNOGRAPHY | RESEARCH DESIGN | CONCEPT VALIDATION

PROJECT ONE: PACKOUT

  • 9 Months

  • PACKOUT is a modular storage system for the jobsite and shop. I worked with a team of engineers, product managers, and another researcher to complete two rounds of prototype testing on a large scale, new-to-world PACKOUT solution. This included ethnographic interviews, an assembly study, and prototype seeding.

  • We view this project as a true disruption to the storage space. Milwaukee must continue to innovate to overcome competition, and this project leverages consumer needs where other products on the market do not.

PROJECT TWO: ELECTRICAL HAND TOOLS

  • 1 Month

  • Milwaukee wanted to optimize and improve its offerings in the electrical hand tool segment, specifically multi-bit screw drivers and nut drivers. I was the primary researcher completing 40 in-house research interviews with electricians. I designed a card sort and used inquiry techniques to drive insights for the business unit.

  • Applying my insights from the research, the engineers re-optimized the drivers to come to market within a few months. This project was a quick turn-around to pursue the opportunity.

PROJECT THREE: BOLT PROTECTION

  • 7 Months

  • Milwaukee wanted to develop an additional offering for their BOLT head protection system. I was the primary researcher on this project, taking the project from scoping phase to the presentation of a final product recommendation. I completed research design and contextual inquiry across the country. I assisted in the creation and validation of prototypes.

  • ON MARKET 2025

  • At Milwaukee Tool, I've taken the lead in prototyping to rigorously test innovative concepts, blending my deep expertise in design and research to bring cutting-edge tools to fruition. This hands-on approach doesn't just prove the feasibility of new product ideas; it ensures they surpass the high expectations and meet the varied demands of Milwaukee Tool's broad customer base.

  • I've successfully validated numerous concepts by seamlessly integrating design innovation with astute business acumen. My method involves comprehensive market analysis, user experience studies, and prototype testing to not only affirm the practicality and appeal of new products but also to identify and tap into viable market opportunities. This dual-focus approach has enabled me to bridge the gap between innovative design and market demand, ensuring that each product not only meets but anticipates customer needs. My efforts have directly contributed to opening new markets and strengthening Milwaukee Tool's competitive edge, affirming the critical role of design in driving business growth and market expansion.

  • In my role at Milwaukee Tool, I've been instrumental in developing comprehensive research plans and facilitating qualitative and ethnographic research projects. My approach is rooted in a deep empathy for the user, guiding me to design research that uncovers the nuanced ways in which tools are used in real-world settings. By employing a mix of observation, in-depth interviews, and user journey mapping, I've been able to gather rich insights into user behaviors, needs, and challenges. This user-centered research has been pivotal in informing design decisions, ensuring our products are not only innovative but also deeply aligned with the actual workflows and environments of our customers.

  • During my time at Milwaukee Tool, I compiled and presented my research insights to business-wide audiences, as well as to CEOs and business unit managers, to directly inform business decisions.
